The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Aug. 16
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a dog-at-large complaint and learned the owner had recently installed an electronic fence. The deputy opted to issue a warning in lieu of a citation.
• On San Juan, a deputy received a report of an assault that occurred at the fairgrounds. The investigation showed that there was no probable cause for arrest but the suspect was removed from the grounds by their employer.
• San Juan deputies stopped an individual for driving with a suspended driver’s license-3rd degree and issued them a citation for DWLS-3rd degree and additional warnings.
• During the San Juan County Fair, deputies were dispatched to the fairgrounds for an order violation; they later determined the order was not violated.
• San Juan deputies stopped an individual for traveling 59 mph in a posted 45 mph zone and issued them a citation for speeding.
Aug. 17
• An Orcas deputy assisted the Loudon County Sheriff’s office in Tennessee with recovering money from an Orcas resident who was a victim of fraud.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a call that an individual’s wallet was stolen from their vehicle, which was left unlocked at a park.
• San Juan deputies were dispatched to Roche Harbor for an unwanted person call and arrested the individual for harassment.
Aug. 18
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident and arrested a person for assault in the second degree – domestic violence. They were booked into jail and the victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
• A Lopez deputy completed a report documenting another incident in a long-running landlord/tenant dispute.
• The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased person in the water off Center Island. The person is as yet unknown, and the case is currently under investigation.
• A Lopez resident reported a possible case of reckless boating on Lopez Sound.
• An Orcas deputy responded to an agency assist call about a Uhaul truck that was reported stolen. An investigation was conducted, and the was truck recovered and returned to Uhaul. No crime was committed.
• On Lopez, a deputy responded to a report of a sheep that had wandered onto Center Road. The deputy encouraged the sheep to go home by waving his arms around.
• Lopez EMS and deputies responded when an intoxicated passenger fell out of a vehicle, hurting their head. EMS administered care and the individual was airlifted to a hospital.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of an intoxicated person about to drive a vehicle with children inside. The intoxicated person was ultimately issued a criminal citation for operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.
Aug. 19
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported and two vehicles were towed from the scene.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident on San Juan. When the deputy arrived and contacted the people involved, the deputy noted that one of the people was in a mental health crisis, and was able to calm the situation.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a local business for a reported lost and disoriented individual. The subject’s spouse was contacted and they were returned home without incident.
• On Orcas, a deputy was dispatched to an animal problem and took a report.
• A juvenile was reported to have brandished a knife at the San Juan County Fair. Their parent was located and said they would bring the juvenile to the Sheriff’s booth. They did not do so. As the victims did not wish to pursue charges, the case was forwarded to Superior Court Services.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding – 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of vandalism on a motorcycle on San Juan.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway. The deputy arrived and observed two occupants slumped over with aluminum foil on the driver’s lap. The two were awoken and the driver was arrested for DUI – Drugs. Both occupants admitted to smoking fentanyl.
Aug. 20
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy located a single vehicle, partially parked in the roadway. Since the deputy was unable to locate the owner, the vehicle was removed.
• A Lopez resident reported an animal problem. The deputy will gather information from other neighbors as part of the investigation.
• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. After talking with the involved parties, it was determined to be a dispute between two juvenile children.
Aug. 21
• A Lopez resident called for assistance with a computer issue, and were directed to appropriate resources.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of fraudulent activity on San Juan.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to collect property that had been left at the county fair. The property was booked into the evidence room.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a lost phone. The owner was able to track the phone to an approximate location. The deputy located the phone and submitted it into evidence for safe keeping.
Aug. 22
• All units available on Orcas responded to a vehicle accident with fatalities. The investigation is ongoing.
• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a vandalism call. The investigation is ongoing, and the incident was documented.
• The San Juan Sheriff’s Office received a report from an outside agency of a possible kidnapping suspect and victim in the area. The case was investigated and unfounded, and a report was provided to the outside agency.
• Lopez deputies were dispatched to and documented a report of an animal bite.
• Along with Lopez Fire, Lopez deputies responded to a reported wildland fire. The Dept. of Natural Resources dispatched a helicopter to assist. Arriving units located a fully involved structure fire, that was spreading into the nearby trees. The fire was extinguished without incident and the cause is still under investigation.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a hit-and-run, involving a vehicle versus pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle was located, taken into custody, and booked into jail.
