The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
April 2
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a farm stand money box being stolen. The incident is under investigation.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a farm stand money box being tampered with. This was the third report of a farm stand-related crime within 24 hours. A group of juveniles is suspected to be involved, and the matter is under investigation.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to an attempted fraud case. Deputies spoke with the reporting party and found no loss had occurred.
• A Friday Harbor man was trespassed from a local business. The individual was served the notice and told not to return to any of the properties for a period of two years.
• A Friday Harbor youth was trespassed from a local business at the request of management. The youth was trespassed for the period of one year.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of mail theft. An individual reported that a package never arrived. A report was completed.
• An Orcas Island deputy authored a report of bank fraud for a local citizen disputing a fraudulent bank account opened in her name. The citizen identified the fraud before receiving any negative impact to her credit. The incident was documented, and an investigation is underway.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver speeding 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued infractions for speed and failure to initially obtain a Washington state driver’s license. A warning was given for a defective windshield.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for turning left when not allowed. The driver was issued infractions for not having a valid license with ID and no insurance.
April 3
• A deputy was contacted about a drug problem. The person calling was a landlord. They believed one of their tenants is using and selling drugs on the property. The deputy provided suggestions on how to resolve the issue. A report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas received a complaint of harassment involving a County road employee. A report was taken.
• San Juan Island deputies responded to investigate a domestic disturbance. Deputies found it to be only verbal in nature. No crime was reported during the investigation.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for expired registration from 2022. It was discovered that the vehicle had a stolen 2026 tab. The driver was issued infractions for expired registration and no insurance. The investigation continues.
April 4
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. Based on vehicle parts left on scene, the deputy identified the vehicle make, model and year. The driver was later contacted and issued a citation for hit-and-run – unattended property, and multiple infractions.
• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Friday Harbor area. The deputies arrived and contacted the people involved. After speaking with the people involved, the incident was found to be a verbal argument. The people separated, and a report was taken.
• An Orcas Island deputy and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to an injury vehicle collision on Orcas Road. The collision was investigated by the deputy, and the driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.
• A hospital in the region called and reported having an anonymous Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner kit for pickup. A detective with the Sheriff’s Office responded and took possession of the kit.
• Graffiti tags were located on the Lopez Community Center property. Juvenile males are involved. Photos were obtained and saved for evidence.
• Damage to the Village restroom was reported on Lopez Island. The likely suspect is known to deputies.
• A Lopez resident reported a traffic hazard involving a trailer. The owner was located and dealt with the issue.
April 5
• A Friday Harbor woman was trespassed from a local business. She was given a trespass notice and told that if she returned, she could be arrested.
• A deputy on Orcas Island received a theft complaint. An investigation has commenced and is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a parking problem. A vehicle was located and partially blocking the roadway. The vehicle was impounded.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 60 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for failing to drive right of a roundabout, failing to wear a safety belt, driving left of center and using a personal electronic device while driving. Multiple infractions were issued.
• Orcas Island deputies apprehended a wanted fugitive in Eastsound. The fugitive led the deputies on a foot chase throughout the Eastsound area. The deputies finally located the wanted fugitive with help from the public. The wanted fugitive was subsequently arrested and booked into jail.
April 6
• A Lopez resident provided a description of a vehicle involved in a traffic violation. The vehicle and driver were located a few days later. A verbal warning was issued.
• A report of a protection order violation was made to the Orcas Substation. An investigation is being conducted, and deputies are currently waiting on video footage.
• A deputy on Orcas Island received a complaint regarding crimes committed and/or occurring in another county. The Deputy authored a report. The report was forwarded to the appropriate agencies.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a welfare check on a juvenile after people saw concerning posts on social media. The juvenile was found to be okay and was left in the care of an older sibling until their parent got home. A report was completed.
April 7
• An Orcas Island Deputy took an incident report about a civil landlord/tenant matter. No crime had been committed.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a citizen dispute regarding children in common and visitation. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. A woman was on the ground, screaming for help. It was determined that she was likely under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was experiencing a mental health crisis. She was transported to Peace Island Medical Center by emergency medical services for further care.
April 8
• A deputy responded to a report of found property. The known owner was unable to be located, and the property was submitted into evidence as found property. A report was completed.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a motor vehicle accident. The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle crossed over a secondary street and came to rest in a ditch. The driver was arrested and booked into jail for DUI.
• A deputy on San Juan Island transported an in-custody individual to the hospital for evaluation; they had been involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier in the night and were arrested for DUI. The hospital evaluated the male, and he was cleared to return to the jail. A report was completed.
