The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 18

• A deputy assisted in a welfare check. The concern arose when a Lopez citizen’s telephone lost power and the citizen was unreachable to family members. The citizen was contacted, confirmed to be healthy and promised they would charge their phone.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of vandalism. There are no suspects or leads at this time.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call about a sick animal. A Lopez citizen who was recently hospitalized did not have the opportunity to check on her pet dogs. Another Lopez citizen offered to take temporary care of the dogs until the owner is released from the hospital.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a single motor scooter collision off the roadway. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. It is unknown what caused the motor scooter to go off the roadway.

• A Lopez deputy responded to Ferry Road for an unoccupied vehicle that was left in the ferry line without the owner’s knowledge. The owner had loaned the vehicle to a friend unfamiliar with ferry travel who parked it and boarded the ferry. The car owner apologized and retrieved his vehicle.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a court-ordered anti-harassment violation. The incident was investigated and a report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen assist at the Sheriff’s Office. The citizen’s complaint was documented, and the complainant was arrested on a San Juan County District Court warrant for an order violation.

• A Lopez deputy responded to an area check after someone reported seeing cars parked and individuals camped along the road on Pavey Blvd. It was learned the campers had just purchased the property where they were camped and were awaiting excavation to clear part of the property so they could park on it.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an assault. The reporting party did not want to pursue the incident as a criminal matter. The incident, however, was documented.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a harassment call.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped and cited the driver of a vehicle for speeding 65 mph in a 45 mph zone on Bailer Hill Road.

Aug. 19

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez EMS responded to a single-vehicle, minor injury collision.

• A San Juan deputy was asked to trespass a person from a residence. A notice of trespass was completed and signed by the requesting party.

• A San Juan deputy was advised of illegally moored vessels at the county dock in Roche Harbor. Two vessels were found to be moored without a permit and were issued citations.

• A deputy responded to a request to trespass a person from a business in Friday Harbor. The person was issued a trespass letter barring them from all business properties.

• A deputy conducted a traffic stop on Orcas Road and cited the driver for speeding, 52 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The driver was also found to be driving on a suspended license. A report was taken and will be forwarded to the courts for processing.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to and completed an investigation into a possible harassment callback.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a parking issue on Decatur Island. The issue was resolved with a phone call.

• A woman reported losing her wedding ring at a local resort on Orcas.

• A deputy on San Juan assisted a jail inmate with a medical issue.

• A driver on San Juan was stopped on Roche Harbor Road and cited for speeding, 62 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.

Aug. 20

• A San Juan deputy learned of an incident of fraud. The reporting party realized the call was a scam and terminated it before any usable information was exchanged. No suspect information exists at this time.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to his vehicle that occurred while it was parked in the 72-hour lot at the ferry terminal.

• A deputy stopped a motorist after he saw her speeding on Fisherman Bay Road near Lopez Village. The deputy gave the driver a speeding ticket for driving 44 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was charged with driving while license suspended in the second degree.

• A Lopez citizen who lives near a septic pump business called to report a strong smell. A Lopez deputy responded to the location of the reported bad smells. The smells had dissipated by the time the deputy arrived.

• A Lopez deputy contacted a visitor who was described as behaving strangely and being a pest to other patrons at a business.

• The individual was located and told that he was no longer allowed on the property. He agreed to comply and a report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left of center and for expired tabs. After a brief foot chase, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence; for driving with a suspended license-second degree; for an ignition interlock violation; and for obstructing a law enforcement officer. Citations were also issued.

Aug. 21

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and charged the driver with driving with a suspended license – third degree and operating a motor vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.

• A Lopez deputy was advised of trailers and vehicles parked in the roadway on Pavey Blvd. The owners were contacted and given a reasonable amount of time to move the vehicles onto the shoulder or onto a lot they were working to clear.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to an abandoned vehicle on a ferry. The driver was located in town and the vehicle was removed after holding up the ferry from loading.

• A San Juan deputy responded to an assist-the-public call. The complainant reported a family disturbance and information on seeking a protection order.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a noise call. An outdoor band was performing at a private residence. By the time the deputy arrived, the band had finished playing and had left.

• San Juan deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call. An investigation determined that a couple with a child-in-common were involved in assaultive acts. The primary aggressor was identified and arrested. The suspect was booked into jail and a report was forwarded to the prosecutor.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a missing person. The caller said his son had run away.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and learned the vehicle’s registration expired more than six months ago. The driver received a citation for the registration violation and a warning for speeding.

Aug. 23

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call about an order violation. A report was taken, and the investigation is ongoing.

Aug. 24

• A deputy responded to an order violation in the Friday Harbor area and contacted the people involved.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a trespass in an unoccupied apartment that had occurred sometime in the past two weeks. Entry was forced to gain access, but once inside nothing appeared to be disturbed or missing.

• A deputy was called to an ongoing neighborhood dispute on Lopez. The parties involved were contacted; it was determined no crime had occurred.

• A deputy responded to a call about property found in the San Juan area. The deputy contacted the caller and the property was entered into evidence.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of theft of a vehicle tab from a license plate. At this time, there are no active leads and the incident was documented.

• Lopez deputies responded to a citizen assist call and assisted in moderating an ongoing neighborly dispute.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of mail theft. The suspect was identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a two-car collision. Two occupants of one vehicle were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A report was completed.
