San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:
July 16: An Orcas Island man was arrested for misdemeanor assault following a late-night altercation at home with his wife. The 39-year-old was taken into custody at his Rosehip Road home at about 11 p.m.
July 17: A warrant and a late-night outburst of anger led to the arrest of a Lopez Island man wanted on felony assault charges in southern Oregon. The 20-year-old reportedly cut the pinky finger of his hand to the bone while punching out the headlights of his Jeep during a fit of rage at his mother’s Lodgepole Lane home. He was reportedly intoxicated when officers arrived at the home at about midnight and arrested for underage drinking.
July 18: Fireworks tossed from a moving car sparked a small fire near the county park on West Side Road five days before. The fire was put out by a group of campers before it spread and firefighters arrived later to ensure it was entirely extinguished.
July 19: A Seattle man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and ticketed for several traffic offenses following a mid-morning traffic stop in Friday Harbor. The 52-year-old, on a motorcycle at the time, was reportedly pulled over near the intersection of Tucker Avenue and University Road at about 9:30 a.m. because of a missing side mirror. He was ticketed for not having a motorcycle endorsement and for defective equipment.
July 22: An altercation with an officer at the Friday Harbor ferry terminal prompted to the arrest of a Lopez Island man suspected of trying to break into a vehicle while onboard an afternoon ferry bound for San Juan Island. The 50-year-old, tasered during the arrest, was taken to a hospital in Anacortes for treatment of a possible overdose of prescription painkillers. He faces charges of vehicle prowl and resisting arrest.
July 23: A San Juan Island woman was ticketed for failure to yield for a pedestrian following an early-morning collision in which her Honda sedan struck another woman who was reportedly walking through the intersection by town hall in Friday Harbor at the time. The victim, a 28-year-old, suffered a compound fracture of her leg in the collision, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Second and West streets.
A rollover collision near the intersection of Roche Harbor Road and Terrace Drive led to the arrest of a San Juan Island woman for DUI. The 61-year-old was taken to the medical center for treatment and then into custody shortly after the crash, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m.
July 24: A warrant and a predawn argument with a boyfriend prompted the arrest of a California woman at a home on Orcas Island. The 33-year-old, reportedly wanted in Seattle on a felony drug charge, was taken into custody in the 30 block of Rossel Lane at about 4 a.m.
July 26: A San Juan Island woman foiled a late-night attempt by two teenage boys to steal her son’s moped when the three came face-to-face outside the grocery store at Roche Harbor Resort. The two teens reportedly fled the scene when they were confronted by the 40-year-old at about 12:30 a.m.
July 25: A Lopez Island man believes someone may be poaching deer and may have shot and slaughtered a stolen cow in the field behind his home in the 4000 block of Fisherman Bay Road. The 57-year-old, who reportedly recalls hearing single shots ringing out repeatedly in the early morning hours in the past several weeks, first found the carcasses of two deer near the brush line behind his home and most recently found the carcass of a cow.
Two San Juan Island men were arrested on alcohol-related charges after a group of teens were confronted by officer during a late-night gathering in the Friday Harbor High School parking lot. A 20-year-old and an 18-year-old, both of whom fled the scene at about 1:30 a.m., were tracked down and later arrested.
July 27: A warrant led to the arrest of a San Juan Island woman after she failed to surrender to local authorities for the start of a year-long prison term. The 41-year-old, recently convicted of selling meth, was taken into custody at her Sutton Road home without incident.
A late-night rollover crash on the north end of San Juan Island led to the arrest of a Yakima man for DUI. The 28-year-old and two friends were traveling at a high-rate of speed on White Point Road when the man reportedly lost control of his Jeep wagon as he swerved to miss a deer at about 1:30 a.m. All three suffered minor injuries.
A San Juan Island woman claims that someone struck her in the side of the head when she answered a late-night knock on the door of her Friday Harbor home. The 23-year-old was injured by the mysterious blow, which reportedly occurred when she opened the door of her Tucker Avenue apartment at about 11 p.m.
July 28: A Bellevue man, unconscious and responsive when officers arrived on scene, died at a San Juan Island home on Barnacle Lane. The 66-year-old, reportedly vacationing with his wife, was pronounced dead shortly after officers and medical personnel arrived on scene at about 9 a.m.
July 29: An Issaquah man and his two passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries in a mid-afternoon rollover collision on San Juan Island. The three were northbound on West Valley Road when the 64-year reportedly lost control of the rented scooter car they were traveling in, sped through the intersection at Roche Harbor Road at about 3:30 p.m., and then ran off the road and into a boulder. A 54-year-old Issaquah woman, riding in the front passenger seat, suffered injuries to her face and the man’s 21-year-old daughter reportedly escaped without serious injury.
