Flag Day celebrated at American Legion

Military veterans ceremoniously lowered tattered, faded, worn and torn American flags one by one into a burning flame at the annual Flag Day Unserviceable Flags Ceremony at the American Legion on June 14. According to the American Legion website, the ceremony for disposal of unserviceable flags was adopted by the 19th National Convention of The American Legion in 1937.

Though rain misted down upon the veterans and observing public, more than 40 flags were burned as part of the ceremony this year.
