The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 21

• A bone found on False Bay on San Juan was turned into the Sheriff’s Office. The bone appears to be of animal origins but is being sent to the state anthropologist for identification.

• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of a hit-and-run vehicle collision. No injuries resulted from the collision, but the fleeing driver failed to stop and contact the driver of the other vehicle. The case is under further investigation.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an incident at the dump that occurred several months before the time of reporting.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving without headlights when required. The driver was arrested and booked for driving under the influence.

Feb. 22

• A deputy responded to a single-vehicle collision on Orcas. There was minimal damage to the vehicle, and no persons were injured. The vehicle was recovered and able to be driven away from the scene.

• A San Juan deputy stopped and issued the driver of a vehicle a speeding citation for traveling 56 MPH in a posted 35 MPH speed zone. The driver also received additional warnings.

Feb. 23

• A Lopez deputy responded to a possible auto theft. The matter will be handled as a civil issue between the two parties.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a two-car collision with injuries. The drivers did not exhibit signs of impairment; both were transported to Peace Island Medical Center for evaluation, and one driver received a citation for improper lane usage.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call after several large pieces of lumber were stolen from a property on Burt Road.

• A person on Lopez reported alleged harassment from a former neighbor. Deputies determined that no crime occurred and civil remedies were suggested.

Feb. 24

• A deputy responded to a reported suspicious person near a business in Eastsound. It was discovered the subject was impaired in violation of court-ordered conditions not to consume alcohol. A report will be forwarded to the probation officer.

Feb. 26

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding unwelcome contact from a past acquaintance. A renewal of a prior no-contact order via the courts was suggested.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a welfare check and found the person deceased in their home. After an investigation was completed, the death was found to be an unattended death with no known suspicious circumstances. The family was notified.

Feb. 27

• A deputy was dispatched to a juvenile problem on Orcas. The case is ongoing.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to an agency asking for assistance and provided information about obtaining eviction anti-harassment orders.

• After responding to a civil issue, a deputy on Orcas provided the caller with information about obtaining an anti-harassment order.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a barking dog-at-large. The owner had previously received a dog-at-large warning letter and was informed of the noise ordinance. The deputy issued two citations for the owner: one for the dog-at-large issue and one under the noise ordinance.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a possible fraud call. The victim was contacted and will meet with deputies when they return to the island.

• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an expired registration over one year. The driver was cited for an expired registration of more than two months, for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and for failing to notify the DOL of an address change.

• A deputy on San Juan contacted a resident who was wanted on an arrest warrant. The person was taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County Jail.
