The San Juan County Sheriff’s Department responded to the following calls.

Sept. 22

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a third-party report of a verbal domestic incident. The residence was vacant, and neighbors said they heard no sounds of an argument.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of harassment involving a number of unwelcome, unsolicited emails.

• A deputy took a report of a recurring issue of trespassing on Lopez. A trespass warning letter was issued to the trespasser.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.

• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report regarding a lost checkbook.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a trespassing call. The subject was asked to leave the property.

• An Orcas deputy authored a non-criminal report about a citizen dispute that occurred on the 600 block of School Way.

• A deputy responded to a suspicious call after a Lopez resident reported seeing a rustling in the bushes near their property. Upon investigation, the primary suspect turned out to be a deer.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a trespassing complaint. The suspect was escorted off the property and charges have been forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 43 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and a warning for an expired registration.

Sept. 23

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident. Both parties were interviewed and found no cause to arrest. The parties were advised to separate and offered contact information for resources.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud after the caller appeared to have purchased a product from a fraudulent website.

• A dog was found wandering loose on Lopez school property. The dog had no information on its collar and did not have a microchip. The dog is being held at the substation kennel while the sheriff’s office and Lopez Animal Protection Society attempt to locate the owner.

• An Orcas deputy assisted a citizen on Bartel Road with four junk vehicle affidavits.

• A deputy on Orcas checked on the welfare of a juvenile. The juvenile was referred to a mental health professional.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of disorderly conduct. The investigation revealed that an assault had occurred as well as a violation of a court order. The cases were forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

Sept. 24

• A San Juan deputy took a report of an incident of vandalism near Friday Harbor. No suspect information exists at this time.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of possible fraud. Upon investigation, no crime appeared to have been committed. The reporting party was advised of steps to protect their identity, and a report was generated.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a theft call from a local business. The suspect was identified by the security footage and located with the stolen merchandise in their possession. Probable cause statements were sent to the prosecutor’s office for theft-third degree and possession of the stolen property.

• A deputy responded to an accident without injury call. A Lopez school bus backed into a vehicle that was parked near the school bus parking zone. The school bus inflicted minor damage on the vehicle. A collision report was taken, and information was exchanged.

• A Lopez deputy responded to an accident without injury call.

• Following a near-identical collision that occurred five minutes prior, a second Lopez school bus backed into a vehicle that was parked near the school bus parking zone. A collision report was taken.

• A deputy on San Juan took possession of a found wallet. The item was entered into the evidence system for owner retrieval.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist near the Lopez Village after he saw him run a stop sign. The deputy issued the driver a ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign.

Sept. 25

• A San Juan deputy initiated a traffic stop on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 57 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• An Orcas deputy served a person with a no-trespass warning letter on the 700 block of A Street.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to stop at posted stop sign. After a subsequent alert by K9 Sucia, the vehicle was searched and narcotics were located. The driver was issued citations for speeding, 64 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, and for the stop sign violation.

• Lopez deputies responded to a report of a verbal domestic incident and found that no crime had occurred.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance. No crime was committed, and the parties separated.

• Lopez deputies responded to a report of a burglary-in-progress after the caller reported seeing somebody on a camera. No evidence of any crime was apparent.

• A San Juan deputy contacted a person in crisis at the Port of Friday Harbor park.

• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. The suspect was arrested and transported to jail.

Sept. 26

• An Orcas deputy took an incident report of a vehicle that lost its brakes and rolled into a tree. The vehicle sustained minor damage.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a protection order violation. The suspect was arrested for violation of a domestic violence protection order.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a burglary in the Friday Harbor area. The caller caught three juveniles in an off-limit area. The deputy contacted the juveniles’ parents.

• A deputy on San Juan took possession of money found by a citizen. The money was entered into the sheriff’s office evidence system.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint. The suspects were contacted and trespassed from the property.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the Friday Harbor area. The caller had struck a parked vehicle while backing up.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of harassment over a social media direct messaging platform.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle with registration that had expired 20 months prior. The driver was issued a citation for the offense.

Sept. 27

• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding 35 mph in the 20 mph school zone on Center Road.

• The property manager for a vacation rental property turned over a loaded handgun to a Lopez deputy. The firearm had been forgotten by a guest. The gun is being held as found property pending a proper claim by its owner.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a vehicle theft. The reporting party rented a vehicle and the vehicle was taken by another subject and never returned.

• A Lopez deputy investigated a non-injury collision at the ferry landing. A school bus with no students aboard was attempting to turn around and sideswiped an occupied vehicle waiting in the ferry line causing minor damage to both vehicles.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a local business that reported two citizens were refusing to wear masks inside. Both individuals were issued indefinite trespass notices for all properties associated with the business.

• Lopez deputies responded to a boating incident involving a person who fell off their dinghy. A good Samaritan pulled the person from the water and brought them to shore.

• EMS personnel and Lopez deputies looked for a person who was seen falling down multiple times while walking along a road. The person was not located.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of child abuse. The investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a warning for speeding in a school zone and for failing to carry a driver’s license.

Sept. 28

• A deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the San Juan area involving a truck and a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was injured.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a vehicle prowl where approximately $1,500 was taken from the unlocked vehicle.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen assist call. A citizen called to inquire about the status of an abandoned boat. Information was relayed from the U.S. Coast Guard.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of someone refusing to wear a mask at a local business. The person was comparing the employees to the Nazi party and was trespassed from the location.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was issued citations for failing to stop at a stop sign and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The driver was also given multiple warnings.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 57 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was issued a citation for speeding.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a fraud call. A reservation was made at a Lopez overnight rental using a stolen credit card. Upon investigation, the credit card was not fraudulent.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding 55 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone.
