The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Feb. 5
• An Orcas Island Deputy located found property in Eastsound. It was later reunited with the controlling party.
• A San Juan deputy observed a vehicle driving erratically past the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was located a few blocks away, disabled, and the driver was arrested for DUI. They were nearly four times the legal limit.
Feb. 6
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a driving complaint at the Orcas Ferry Terminal. The driver was identified and warned.
• A San Juan deputy trespassed a person from the Port of Friday Harbor due to damage caused to facilities.
• A deputy was dispatched to a threats call in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and contacted the involved people. No crime had been committed. Both parties were advised to avoid contact with the other.
• Deputies were dispatched to a possible DUI in the San Juan Island area. The driver of the vehicle was contacted and arrested for driving while license suspended and operating a motor vehicle without ignition interlock. The driver was booked into custody.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of child abuse. An investigation was conducted, and an individual was later taken into custody for assault in the second degree, domestic violence. The incident was documented.
• San Juan deputies and emergency medical services responded to a report of an unconscious person in a boat. The person was found deceased. An investigation was conducted and a report was generated.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a communications call. The matter is under investigation.
Feb. 7
• A San Juan sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies observed the vehicle and found the driver to have a suspended license. The driver was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license in the third degree.
• A Lopez Island deputy was contacted regarding harassment. An investigation was conducted, and the incident was documented.
• A San Juan deputy conducted a welfare check. The person advised they needed no assistance.
• A deputy was contacted about information on some crimes committed on Lopez. The person provided suspect information for several crimes. Investigation continues.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of a found firearm. The weapon was located and found to be unloaded and non-functional due to saltwater corrosion. No match was found in the statewide database. The weapon was placed into evidence.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding in the Crow Valley area. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failing to renew registration and a warning for speed.
Feb. 8
• Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
Feb. 9
• A driver was stopped for not wearing a seat belt and expired vehicle registration. The driver was issued an infraction for failing to wear a safety belt.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 45 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and given a verbal warning for other infractions.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A driver was stopped for not wearing a seat belt. The driver was issued an infraction for failing to wear a safety belt.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 38 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 46 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Olga Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 39 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Point Lawrence Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for failure to transfer title. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance, and multiple warnings were given.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 39 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 55 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Point Lawrence Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for failure to stop at a stop sign. The driver was issued an infraction and an additional warning was given.
Feb. 10
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an individual camping in the Village. The individual moved along after being contacted.
Feb. 11
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a trespassing complaint. The subject was charged with criminal trespass in the first degree.
• A Lopez Island Deputy stopped a vehicle on Center Road. The driver, a local man, was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a 35 mph zone and given a verbal warning for no proof of insurance.
