Fox News yesterday reported that the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife has been taking more of an “educational” stance toward enforcing newly enacted orca protections mandating 200 yards of distance between orcas and boats.

The story also said that fish and wildlife officers conducted 25 patrols this season for the purpose of enforcement, up from 15 patrols last year, and that 10 of the most serious violations were sent to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association for prosecution.
