The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 31

• On San Juan, an unknown vehicle left West Valley Road and drove through a fence causing significant damage. The vehicle is described as possibly an older Toyota d4-runner, dark blue or black with a roof rack on top.

• Adult Protective Services referred a possible harassment case to the Sheriff’s Office. A San Juan deputy spoke with the victim and determined a course of action.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to an agency assist.

• A San Juan County deputy responded to a local business on a trespassing complaint and learned that an individual who had previously received a trespass warning notice had returned to the property two days in a row. The case is under further investigation.

• A deputy took a trespassing complaint from a business in Eastsound. A person who had previously received a trespass warning letter at the owner’s request was found to be back on the property. The case was documented and forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office received a financial abuse referral from Adult Protective Services. After a brief investigation, it was determined the victim was not living in Washington State, but in California. The case was referred back to APS.

• A deputy on Orcas was assigned a citizen assist call-back. The complainant wished to document a verbal argument, and the deputy contacted the involved parties.

• Deputies received a call from a person on Orcas who wished to document an ominous statement made by a caller from a private number.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a speeding citation for traveling 58 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Feb. 1

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of an unattended death, conducted an investigation, and filed a report.

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez Fire & EMS were dispatched to a trauma call, and the patient was airlifted for further treatment.

• A deputy stopped a driver on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez and issued them a citation for speeding, 40 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

Feb. 2

• An agency in Friday Harbor asked a deputy to conduct a home check on a family. After contacting the family, the deputy found no significant issues.

• Lopez deputies and Lopez Fire & EMS were dispatched to a Trauma BLS patient who was then airlifted off the island for a higher level of care.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. The vehicle was located a short distance away and the driver was arrested for DUI.

Feb. 3

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint in the late night hours. Deputies discovered the persons who trespassed and shared with them that they were on private property. The wayward travelers apologized for their actions.

• A deputy responded to an overnight fender-bender on Orcas. The responsible party agreed to pay for damages.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and an expired registration. The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI/drugs and booked into jail.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Lopez Sound Road. The driver received multiple warnings as well as citations for not having insurance, failing to renew registration over two months, not having the registration in the vehicle, and a modified exhaust.

• A deputy responded to a single motor-vehicle collision on Orcas. There were no injuries and minimal damage to the vehicle that ended up in a ditch as the driver attempted to turn the vehicle around. The vehicle was recovered and able to be driven from the location.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of a welfare check from a family member who’d heard a rumor a loved one had passed away. Further investigation revealed that in the communication chain from one person to another, it was a case of mistaken identity and the family member is believed to be okay.

Feb. 4

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a speeding citation for traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy responded to a civil problem in Friday Harbor involving one person having a problem with a neighbor. The deputy discussed several options with the caller.

Feb. 5

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a death investigation. During the investigation, it appeared that a gap had occurred between the death and the report. Video footage was reviewed and showed multiple items being removed by the reporting party, who was arrested.

Feb. 6

• A person on San Juan reported an assault to the Sheriff’s Office. After an investigation, neither party was cooperative with the investigation and no charges were filed.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible order violation call near Eastsound. After an investigation was completed there was no proof of the violation.

• On San Juan, a deputy received a report of an overdose. The victim was treated and transported by San Juan EMS.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor conducted a welfare check on a person who had been drinking; however, the person was on conditions not to drink alcohol.

Feb. 7

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of harassment, and the caller wanted the person trespassed from the property.
