Young people ages eight to 17 will have a chance to take on the skies on Saturday, June 19 during a Young Eagles Flight Rally hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 937.

Since the EAA Young Eagles program was created in 1992 to interest youth in aviation, volunteer pilots have flown over 1.5 million children in over 90 countries, donating their time and use of their aircraft.

“Free airplane rides are just part of the flight rally,” said Beverly Franklet, spokesman for the event. “We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.”

Following their flight, each young person will receive a certificate designating them as an official Young Eagle, and their name will be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and accessible online at www.youngeagles.org.

“I have been asked if I ever hear from any of the Young Eagles later on,” said Franklet. “The answer is yes. One of my Young Eagles is soon going to graduate from the Air Force Academy.”
