A grief recovery group will begin meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the parish hall of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Eastsound. The series of six meetings will continue through Oct. 12.
The second meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 23 followed by four meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 28, Thursday, Sept. 30, Tuesday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Oct. 12. The group experience will be facilitated by Dr. Fountiene Prince.
Grieving is a natural process that follows any significant loss in life, which may include loss of a friend or family member through death or divorce, loss of familiar life functioning due to injury, illness, job loss or relocation.
“Overcoming a major loss can challenge one’s sense of well-being as emotions are strongly affected,” Prince said. “Many grieving individuals find it helpful to meet with others coping with loss and to become familiar with the natural grief process.”
The experience is educational and is intended for anyone who is living with the effects of a significant loss. Participants will explore the normal grief response and will learn strategies for coping with loss and reinvesting energy in the future. There is no charge. Participants should plan to attend all meetings.
If you, or someone you know, would like to participate, call Emmanuel Parish at 376-2352 to reserve a place in the group. Call Prince at 376-2098 with questions.
