The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Dec. 18
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a fraud call. The incident was documented.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a vehicle accident where the driver was reported as unconscious. The driver woke up, and was subsequently arrested for DUI. The driver was issued infractions for driving left of center and wheels off the roadway. A report was completed.
• A Lopez Island Deputy was contacted regarding a possible DUI. An investigation was conducted, and an individual was later booked into the county holding facility for DUI. The incident was documented.
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic dispute. Upon investigation, an arrest was made for assault in the fourth degree.
Dec. 19
• A Lopez Island deputy observed a private helicopter land in the village. Operators and a local business were contacted. The safety of others was addressed when landing. The incident was documented and then forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration for their review.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a mental health crisis. Deputies helped transport the individual suffering from a mental health crisis to the emergency room on San Juan.
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic dispute. An arrest was made for assault in the fourth degree.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a death investigation. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.
Dec. 20
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted Washington state Department of Children, Youth & Family Services in investigating an allegation of inappropriate touching of a minor. An investigation was conducted. At the time of the investigation, no crime appeared to have been committed.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and located a mailbox knocked off its post. The mailbox was undamaged. A report was taken.
• A deputy was dispatched to an agency assist. The Sheriff’s Office received a referral from another agency. The people involved were contacted. A report was taken.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to information on a recent death investigation. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted an owner of a local storage facility by establishing trespass letters for individuals camping and storing vehicles on his property. The trespass letters will be served, and the incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a suspicious call. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle in the 3300 block of Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was subsequently issued infractions for speeding 45 mph in a posted 25 mph zone and no valid operator’s license with identification. Additional warnings were issued.
Dec. 21
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of trespassing in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and removed a person from a business. The person was served with a trespass warning letter. A report was taken.
• An Orcas Island deputy apprehended a wanted fugitive. The individual was taken into custody without incident.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to an unattended death.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a request to trespass a subject from a local business. The suspect was later located and served with the trespass notice.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 57 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed, operating a vehicle without insurance and a citation for suspended registration. The driver was also issued a verbal warning.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a request to trespass a subject from a local business. The suspect was served with a trespass notice letter and escorted from the business.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a threats call. An investigation was conducted, and the incident was documented.
Dec. 22
• A deputy was contacted about an order violation. The person was reporting someone was contacting them in violation of a court order. A report was taken.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a store in Friday Harbor. A controlling authority of the store wished to have an individual trespassed for one year. The individual was located and served with the trespass warning letter. A report was completed.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a mental health call. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a welfare check. The subject of the welfare check was found deceased. A death investigation was conducted.
Dec. 23
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of an order violation. The deputy discovered that there was no violation in this incident.
Dec. 24
• A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Beaverton Valley Road for expired registration of May 2022. The driver was issued infractions for expired registration over two months and no insurance, and given verbal warnings on three other violations.
