July 15: A Shaw Island woman claims that a dog chased her 30-year-old horse to death. The horse, which reportedly collapsed after its flight, was euthanized two days after the alleged event; however, there are no witnesses to the incident.
July 20: An outboard motor disappeared from a dinghy docked near the Port of Friday Harbor office in an apparent case of theft. The 3.5-horsepower motor, valued at $1,000, was bolted but not locked onto the dinghy, which reportedly hadn’t been used for about three weeks, at the time it vanished.
• An Orcas Island man faces charges of hit-and-run following a two-car collision in the 2400 block of Deer Harbor Road. The 33-year-old reportedly was trailed by the driver of the other car involved in the collision, uninjured in the crash, and then later taken into custody at his Cayou Valley Road home at about 10:30 p.m.
July 21: An early evening altercation on the streets of Eastsound prompted the arrest of a 24-year-old Orcas Island man on charges of assault, vandalism and vehicle prowling. The 24-year-old allegedly struck a woman he’d been dating for eight months in an altercation near Madrona Point at about 6:30 p.m., and also slashed three tires on the vehicle of a man, unidentified in the incident report, at the scene.
• An early morning traffic stop led to the arrest of an Orcas Island woman on charges of domestic violence assault. The 36-year-old, accompanied by a 28-year-old male passenger at the time, was pulled in the 100 block of Crescent Beach Road at about 6:30 a.m. She is identified as the primary aggressor of of an alleged assault, details of which were not describe in the incident report.
July 23: A San Juan Island teen faces possible DUI charges following a late-night rollover crash near an alpaca ranch on West Valley Road. The 18-year-old, who claims to have lost control of his SUV while swerving to miss a deer, suffered non-life threatening injuries when his vehicle rolled several times before crashing through a fence and coming to a stop in an alpaca pasture at about midnight. A passerby drove the man to the medical center for treatment, where blood samples were drawn for investigation of the crash.
July 26: A Friday Harbor home remodel center opted to press theft charges against a San Juan Island man accused of stopping payment on a $2,781 check used to purchase a set of skylights, and who then ignored repeated requests for compensation. The 35-year-old, also identified as a part-time Gig Harbor resident, was reportedly not at home when a deputy stopped by. A voicemail listing possible solutions and potential charges was later left on his home phone.
July 27: A San Juan Island man claims the driver of a Dodge Durango threatened him with a knife during a confrontation over an exit-only sign of a Friday Harbor home remodel center. The 33-year-old, working security outside the center’s parking lot at the time, claims the driver entered the parking lot via its exit, pulled out a knife when confronted, and then exited through the entrance, and sped away.
July 28: An assortment of tools valued at $2,500 vanished in an apparent theft from a shop at an Orcas Island home. The 61-year-old homeowner believes the break-in and theft occurred several days before he noticed the tools were missing.
Aug. 4: Allegations of rape prompted a search for a 24-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at her Orcas Island home. The man, identified as a transient and frequent customer at an Eastsound restaurant, reportedly barged into the woman’s Spruce Street home at about 7:30 a.m. and used his strength to overwhelm and assault her.
Aug. 6: The owner of a Friday Harbor apartment complex claims a man, identified as homeless, broke into an empty unit, changed the locks and took up residence inside for six days. The 43-year-old reportedly ignored the owner’s written demands to leave and that he had no right to be there. The man was elsewhere when a deputy dropped by to assess the situation.
