All children entering kindergarten (five years old before Sept.1st, 2008) are encouraged to attend school screening on May 14 and 15 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Orcas Island school library.
This screening covers the developmental areas of fine and gross motor development, concept skills, hearing, vision, and speech and language development. The purpose of the screening is to make sure all children on the island are growing strong and ready to learn.
It takes about 45 minutes and is set up in fun centers. Parents are asked to bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization records.
Children can be enrolled in kindergarten at this time. Call Roann at the elementary school, 376-2286, to schedule a time.
New kindergarteners are invited to visit the kindergarten room and meet the teachers on May 21 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Call Roann at 376-2286 to RSVP for this visit as well.
A separate screening date will be on May 22 for any preschoolers who would like the screening.
