Over 20 new kindergarten students from all of the Island pre-schools got a chance to practice riding the school bus, tour the elementary school, meet kindergarten teachers Pam Jenkins and Mathew Chasanoff, and eat lunch in the cafeteria. The annual visit to the school was sponsored by the Orcas Island School District, Orcas Family Connections, and a generous anonymous donor.
Registration packets for incoming kindergartners are available at the Orcas Elementary office. Any kindergarten age students who did not take part in the first round of kindergarten screening are invited to sign up for screening on June 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., call the front office at 376-2286 to schedule a time. Despite budget cuts Orcas Island Elementary school will continue to offer free full-day kindergarten to all students next school year.
