Kiwanis says thanks | Letter

Kiwanis wishes to thank all who participated in our yard sale at the American Legion parking lot.

Kiwanis wishes to thank all who participated in our yard sale at the American Legion parking lot on Saturday, August 29. We did our best to make it a safe day, as did all of you. Everyone was very considerate of their fellow shoppers.

We had a very successful fundraiser which ensures funds for scholarships and other projects for the coming year. We have been so successful in our fundraisers because many nonmembers of the club are so willing to help. They are so appreciated.

Kiwanis has been a valuable asset to Orcas youth programs for 30 years. It is rewarding and well worth the time many have given.

Kiwanis is an international organization with its motto “making the world a better place, one child at a time.” Our efforts to introduce others to what Kiwanis stands for and to recruit new members fell short of what we need to continue. Without new members stepping up, our contributions to the following will be discontinued: Children’s House; Kaleidoscope Montessori; Camp Orkila; The Fun House; the Summer reading program; Economic development VoTec training; leadership sponsorship; graduating senior scholarships; and many more youth-oriented objectives.
