Moran state Park is working with KWIAHT ecologist Russel Barsh and botanist Madrona Murphy to offer a series of workshops and lectures about rare native plants in Moran State Park. The overall goal for this partnership is to find and map out rare native plants in Moran State Park so that the Park can knowledgably manage the land in the future, said Linda Sheridan, Moran’s Interpretive Specialist.

The research will take place over the next three to five years at three events where experienced ecologists, botanists, and scientists at Moran State Park will teach about rare native plants. “It is our hope that community volunteers will get involved during these events to learn more about native plants and to help search for, map and photograph the plants that they find,” said Sheridan. The following dates have been set for lectures and field studies at Moran State Park:

• May 9 -11

• June 24-26

• September 12-14

All lectures will be held at Moran State Park at the Environmental Learning Center. These will be three-day events filled with lectures, slide show presentations, and hands on field work. Each event is free and open to the public. Each day will have a new program, and participants are encouraged to come to parts or all of each event.
