Local flamingoes held for ransom

Within hours of holding the flamingos hostage, an anonymous member of Kiwanis paid $200 in bail for the jail birds.

Over the weekend, San Juan Vision was flocked with pink flamingos by the Kiwanis Club.

Chris White, former president of the Orcas Island Lions Club, was forced to pay to move the flock to someone else.

But White wasn’t going down without a fight. He held the birds ransom until someone ponied up $200 for Orcas Lions Camp Horizon Project, a place for campers with disabilities.

Within hours of holding the flamingos hostage, an anonymous member of Kiwanis paid $200 in bail for the jail birds.

“The  pressure was either too much or Camp Horizon was the right cause for the ransom,” Dr. White said.
