The League of Women Voters of the San Juans, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, is sponsoring a Voter Forum at the Eastsound Fire Hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12. The Forum is designed as an opportunity for local voters to get to know candidates for the Orcas Port and Fire Commissioners to be considered in the August primary election. The San Juan County Elections Office will be mailing primary ballots to registered voters on July 11.

The Voter Forum is a moderated event during which candidates will present introductory statements and respond to your questions, within time limits.

Candidates on the August primary ballot for San Juan County Fire Protection District No. 2 – Fire Commissioner 1 are Toni Knudson, Kate Hansen, and Leith Templin.

Candidates for Port of Orcas – Port Commissioner 3 are Rick Fant, Mia Kartiganer, and Bob Phalan. The League of Women Voters requires civil discourse in forums, and all questions to candidates must meet that requirement.
