June 8: Two posts and the chain that stretched between them disappeared from Shaw Island county park in an apparent case of theft. Valued at $100, the chain and posts had recently been installed at the entrance of the road leading to a boat-launch area.

June 11: A late-night collision near the intersection of Beaverton Valley and Egg Lake roads led to the arrest of a San Juan Island man for DUI. The 29-year-old was reportedly southbound on Egg Lake Road, failed to heed a stop sign and then crashed into an oncoming Volkswagon Jetta as his pickup entered the intersection at about 11:30 p.m.

June 14: Enforcement of the Washington State’s new rules on cell-phone use led to the arrest of a San Juan Island man for driving with a suspended license. The 19-year-old, also ticketed for driving without insurance and for using a cell-phone while driving, was reportedly talking on a cell-phone when he was pulled over near the intersection of Spring and Second streets at about 5 p.m.

Four warrants and a chance encounter prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island man at his home on Pear Point Road. The 24-year-old was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. after authorities turned up at his home in 4000 block of Pear Point Road in search of a different man. That man, a 29-year-old accused of pummeling a woman with his fists and with his feet, and of trying to stab a man with a knife, who was later tracked down and arrested on felony and on misdemeanor assault charges.

June 16: Officers seized 54 marijuana plants from the greenhouse of an Orcas Island man following complaints by his neighbors that the 51-year-old had been giving pot away while strolling through the Ocean Mist Drive neighborhood. The man reportedly admitted that he provided several neighbors with marijuana, free of charge, and allowed his greenhouse to be searched. The case was forwarded to prosecutors for review.

Allegations of assault led to the arrest of a California teen accused of knocking a wilderness program instructor to the ground during a dispute at county park on Lopez Island. The 17-year-old, later charged in juvenile court with misdemeanor assault, allegedly shoved the educational program’s chief instructor, a 30-year-old Tacoma man, to the ground during a heated exchange.

June 17: Paramedics were called to draw a blood after a San Juan Island man, who’s ruse to avoid a random urine sample failed, refused to provide one of his own. The 35-year-old, under court order to provide samples at random, reportedly tried to pass the test by using someone else’s urine, which he brought to the Sheriff’s office in a condom, and that he had taped to his body.

As much as $800 in change disappeared from a San Juan Island home in an apparent case of theft. The coinage was kept in a empty 5-gallon water jug that was reportedly three-quarters full at the time it vanished from its customary location at a Wold Road home.

June 18: Excessive speed prompted the arrest of an Orcas Island woman for DUI following a late-night traffic stop in Eastsound. The 43-year-old was pulled over near the intersection of North Beach Road and Spruce Street at about 10 p.m.

June 20: A slow-roll through an intersection prompted the arrest of a Lopez Island man for driving with a suspended license following late-night traffic stop on Dill Road. The 49-year-old was pulled over at about 1 a.m. near the intersection of Center and Dill roads.

June 21: An Orcas Island man was chased by two dogs and reportedly bit by one during a painful skirmish in the 400 block of Discovery Way Road. The dogs’ owner, a 37 year-old man, was ticketed for creating a public nuisance in the aftermath of the late afternoon rumpus. One dog reportedly bit the 19-year-old on the leg as he fled.

The 22-year-old, pulled over at about 7:30 a.m., also was ticketed for driving without insurance and for speeding.

June 22: Excessive speed led the arrest of a San Juan Island man for driving with a suspended license on the heels of an early-morning traffic stop — for the second time in two days — near the intersection of Cady Mountain and West Valley roads. The 24-year-old, also pulled over at about 7:30 a.m., was ticketed for driving without insurance and for speeding as well.
