San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Dec. 8
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving 37 mph in a 25 mph zone. The driver was given a warning for speeding and issued a citation for an expired vehicle registration more than two months.
• A Lopez deputy was called about a trespassing issue at a residence. All parties involved were interviewed, and the trespasser departed without further incident.
Dec. 9
• A Lopez deputy was called about a nuisance dog that had gone after some chickens, injuring two of them. The dog was located, its owner identified and contacted. Further follow up will be conducted.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving 41 mph in a 25 mph zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a single vehicle collision on Davis Bay Road. The sole occupant of the vehicle was flown off island by Emergency Medical Services for further evaluation. The driver was believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an assault. The investigation is ongoing.
• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for having an expired registration.
Dec. 10
• A deputy responded to a possible theft of medication in Eastsound.
• A deputy responded to a report of fraud in the Eastsound area. The investigation is ongoing.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding unwanted persons at a local business. The off-island workers were contacted and told not to return to the business.
• In Friday Harbor, a deputy took possession of a found cell phone. An owner was unable to be located and the property was submitted into the evidence and property room.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a domestic incident near Map Corner. A report was taken and will be forwarded to juvenile services.
• A deputy responded to a suspicious circumstance call on San Juan. The male involved was seen by the deputy driving away from the area and was stopped on a traffic stop. The male was given a trespass warning and issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.
• On Orcas, a truck drove off the road and collided with a tree on Dolphin Bay Road. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.
• San Juan deputies responded to a single vehicle collision involving multiple trees. The driver was located near the collision scene and transported to the hospital for treatment before being arrested for driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.
Dec. 11
• San Juan deputies responded to a report that possible explosives were found abandoned. The item was collected and turned over to the Washington State Police bomb squad.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an animal problem near Map Corner. The reporting party stated that possibly a dog or similar type animal had killed some of their livestock. The case is ongoing.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and for not using a turn signal. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was issued citations for the violations.
Dec. 12
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a call about trespassing that ended up being a civil landlord/tenant dispute. The deputies provided a courtesy transport for the tenant.
• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a pair of mounted tires/wheels from his property.
• A deputy was dispatched to an unattended death in Eastsound. The death was determined to be from natural causes.
• A deputy responded to a possible theft of medication in Eastsound.
• Lopez deputies were called when a dead body apparently washed up on a secluded beach. An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the person’s death is underway.
• A deputy was dispatched to a malicious mischief call in the Eastsound area.
Dec. 13
• A Lopez deputy took a complaint of trespassing from a resident after an unwanted person showed up at their residence. A report was taken and the subject was served with a trespass warning letter.
Dec. 14
• A deputy responded to a report of an animal bite near Eastsound. After all the parties were interviewed and photographs were taken, a report was written. The case is still ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy took a report from a woman concerned that her boyfriend’s dog has become more aggressive with her over the past few weeks. There was no crime or injuries to report, but the situation was documented.
• Two deputies on Orcas responded to a welfare check. The deputies were unable to locate the person of concern.
• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle traffic accident on San Juan. The driver of the vehicle had failed to complete a curve and drove into the ditch.
• Lopez deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was given a citation for speeding and for failing to notify the state department of licensing of an address change.
Dec. 15
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a harassment call. After the reporting party was interviewed, the deputies were asked to serve the suspect with a trespassing warning letter since there was nothing criminal to report at the time.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft. Two juveniles were arrested for third-degree theft and for a minor in possession of alcohol. They were released to their parents.
