Mountain Lake closed for construction

Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has announced that an upcoming construction and improvement project will cause Mountain Lake at Moran State Park will be closed from April 3 to May 14.

Vehicles will be restricted from entering the Mountain Lake Day Use Area and campground from Mount Constitution Road. The Mount Constitution road shoulder will not be available for parking, and the boat launch will also be closed. The nearest trailhead parking spaces are at Cascade Falls. Visitors may hike to the south end of Mountain Lake from Cascade Lake or Cascade Falls via the Cascade Creek trail.

The trails to the Mountain Lake Day Use Area and campground will also be closed due to road construction. Parks staff will post trail closure signs at the Little Summit to Mountain Lake trail on Mount Constitution, the north end of Mountain Lake from Twin Lakes and the south end of Mountain Lake from the west side of the dam. Parks staff advises visitors not to take the closed west shoreline trails leading to the Mountain Lake boat launch or cabin trailhead as the road section of the Mountain Lake loop will be impassable.

Updates to the campground will include a new, higher-capacity water system, power and light to the group camp restroom, and electric fans in the Mountain Lake campground restrooms on the point. The road will be chip-sealed at the end of the project to take care of the potholes.

Park staff will notify users if the project is completed early. People can also check the status of the closure at http://parks.state.wa.us/547/Moran. For more info: 376-2326 or moran@parks.wa.gov.
