Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival and the Music Advocacy Group bring Dr. Patricia Campbell from UW School of Music Education back to Orcas Island to work with preschool students and teachers Sept. 28 through Oct. 2.
Dr. Campbell’s special interest is music education for early childhood learning and development.
As the first Musician-in-Residence for IM, In Music for Young Ones, Campbell was recruited to visit Orcas last spring. Her visit coincided with the arrival of new music resources provided by the Orcas Island Community Foundation. Last year, Campbell visited Children’s House, Kaleidoscope, and Montessori schools presenting the new music resource materials and offering training each afternoon to the preschool faculty. This fall, Salmonberry will join the week’s activities of IM: In Music for Young Ones.
An Open House and demonstration of ways to introduce and share music with young ones is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the fire hall. Parents and families of children birth through seven are welcome to attend this free session. Dr. Campbell will discuss music for young ones and give examples of natural ways to incorporate music in daily life activities.
