The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 12

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a subject trespassing on private property. The subject had left prior to the deputy’s arrival.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a vandalism complaint and initiated an investigation.

• A Lopez resident turned in a folding knife found on the street in Lopez village. The knife was booked as found property pending claim by its owner.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats. No crime was committed and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a welfare check call. A juvenile was engaged in a physical altercation with an older sibling. A report was taken and probable cause for assault was generated.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for driving left of center. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, harassment, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession by a prisoner and malicious mischief-third degree. The same suspect was also arrested less than two weeks prior for similar charges.

Jan. 13

• A Lopez deputy reviewed the noise ordinance with a resident who had questions about his music volume.

• A deputy responded to a trespassing call near Eastsound.

• A Lopez deputy performed a welfare check on a person.

• Orcas deputies investigated a disturbance on North Beach Road. It was determined no crime was committed.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of an in-progress non-residential burglary. Upon arrival, deputies learned that there was no burglary, only a miscommunication. Thus, no crime was committed.

Jan. 14

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. The suspect fled before the deputy’s arrival and the reporting party was uncooperative. A report was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office for possible conditions violation.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a vehicle off the roadway.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to an agency assist request by Child Protective Services. The child appeared safe, happy, and well cared for. Information was obtained and is being investigated.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of a hit and run with property damage. The vehicle was known to law enforcement; it was identified by a witness and bore damage consistent with the collision. The driver was charged with a hit and run of unattended property.

• A person on San Juan turned found property into the sheriff’s office where it was entered into evidence as found property.

• An Orcas deputy investigated a harassment complaint.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 48 mph in a posted 35 mph speeding zone. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license – third degree and received citations for speeding, not having insurance, and registration expired for more than two months.

Jan. 15

• A Lopez deputy was called about a confrontation between neighbors. The incident involved a subject calling the reporting party names and making veiled threats.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a theft. There is no suspect information at this time.

• Lopez deputies mediated a dispute between family members.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of theft in Friday Harbor. The victim did not want the deputy to contact the suspect and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 53 mph in a posted 35 mph speeding zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding after stopping them for traveling 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speeding zone.

Jan. 16

• A Lopez deputy was called about an ongoing issue with a dog running at large.

• A deputy responded to a report of criminal trespassing in the Friday Harbor area. The suspect was cited and released.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of vehicle theft. There is no suspect information at this time.

• Deputies on Orcas spotted an unoccupied vehicle while on patrol that looked similar to a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day. Further investigation confirmed it was the stolen vehicle. The owner was contacted and they retrieved their vehicle. There is no suspect information.

Jan. 17

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats. No crime was committed and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy was called to check on a vacant house after neighbors noticed the garage door open. Nothing appeared amiss inside, and the house was secured. The neighbors had been in contact with the owner.

• Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. No crime had been committed; a report was made.

Jan. 18

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of mail theft. There are no suspects at this time.

• A Lopez deputy took a report after a child was bitten by the family dog.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for not having a valid license with ID. The driver also received multiple warnings.
