The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 31

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road who was issued a speeding citation for driving 35 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone.

• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to a non-injury accident.

• A Division of Youth and Children, Youth and Family made a referral to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The department conducted an investigation and determined the allegations were unfounded at this time. A report was sent back to DCYF.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a fraud call after the caller reported they lost money through an internet scam.

• On Lopez, a deputy responded to a call about an animal-at-large. An individual was cited under the San Juan County Code of Public Nuisance, and released.

• A deputy stopped a driver in Friday Harbor for speeding and issued them a citation for traveling 44 MPH in a posted 25 MPH speed zone, and a verbal warning for not having their driver’s license on their person.

August 1

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a sex offense. After interviewing multiple people, the deputies contacted the suspect at their residence and arrested them for burglary 1st degree, child molestation 3rd degree, and indecent liberties, and booked them into jail.

• Lopez deputies responded when a property owner fired a warning shot at a neighbor’s off-leash dog that ran onto their property and approached the property owner. The matter was investigated and it was determined that the property owner was within their rights.

August 2

• The Sheriff’s Office on San Juan took a report of an animal bite. The victim of the bite, however, wanted the incident documented, and not pursued criminally.

August 3

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy responded to a report of a court order violation. An investigation revealed no crime appeared to have occurred; both parties had questions about the order, and the deputy stood by for a custody exchange.

August 4

• A Lopez deputy responded to multiple theft calls from local farm stands; the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy took a report that a driver’s license belonging to a Seattle resident was found in Friday Harbor. Contact information for the individual was unable to be located, and the driver’s license was submitted into evidence as found property.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report that a purse had been left behind at a local establishment for a couple of days. Contact information for the off-island resident was unable to be located, and the purse was submitted into evidence as found property.

August 5

• A deputy was contacted about a theft in the Friday Harbor area. The caller reported a package that was reported to have been delivered but had not been received.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft. An investigation revealed no loss to the reporting party and deputies determined it was a civil matter between the reporting party and the new owners of the property.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of CPR in progress. Lifesaving efforts were made on an individual who unfortunately passed away. An investigation was conducted.

• Lopez deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a local hotel. The caller said there was a lot of commotion coming from the room next door. Deputies contacted the individuals in question and determined the disturbance was verbal only.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call about an alleged vehicle theft, conducted an investigation, and determined the allegations were unfounded and that the vehicle was not stolen. Deputies determined it was a dispute between two intoxicated individuals and the allegations had no merit.

August 6

• A deputy observed vagrancy in the Lopez Village. The individual was contacted and received multiple warnings.

• A Lopez deputy was approached in the parking lot of Lopez Fire & EMS.

• Lopez deputies and Lopez Fire & EMS were dispatched to the Lopez Ferry Landing for a childbirth-in-progress on board a ferry. The child was soon delivered onboard the ferry, and the mother and baby were airlifted to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an animal problem. The reporting party complained his neighbor’s dog was a nuisance and was roaming loose on his property. The neighbor was contacted and warned about county leash laws.

• A deputy responded to an animal-at-large call on Orcas. A loose dog was taken into custody, booked into the animal shelter and the owner received a citation for violating the San Juan County loose dog ordinance.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding driver who received a citation for driving 56 MPH in a 35 MPH zone and having registration expired longer than two months. The driver also received a verbal warning for not having proof of insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a dog-at-large and issued the owner a dog-at-large warning letter.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of vandalism after an unknown person(s) had cut the caller’s fence that holds her cattle. There are no investigative leads.

August 7

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft call on Orcas. The incident is currently under investigation.

An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding – 52 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone – and for not having a valid operator’s license with identification.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a reported theft of several campaign signs. The suspect vehicle was located and 18 signs were located.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible protection order violation. After looking over the order it was found that no violation had occurred.
