Orcas Island now has a Facebook ride share page for people on the go who want to reduce the amount of vehicles on the roads.

“Save gas, enjoy company, share a ride,” reads the site. “Going to the ferry from Eastsound, or Olga to Moran, Seattle to Anacortes? Train station in Mt. Vernon? Go green on the Ride Board…”

Islanders heading down to Seattle with an empty seat in their cars can post an offer on the board to find passengers willing to share gas expenses, conversation and access to the HOV lane. Those needing rides can post their requests and hope to find someone driving on that date. People are also using the board to find homes for ferry tickets that are about to expire.
