Orcas Christian School is happy to announce the arrival of our new high school English and history teacher. Andrew Lechler is a 26-year-old native of Chattanooga, Tenn. He graduated from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee and is credentialed in history, political science, economics and English. Before moving to Orcas, he taught at a college preparatory school in South Korea.
A life changing experience Lechler reluctantly shares is surviving an EF4 tornado in April of 2011; everyone in the house walked away safe even though the house was demolished.
Lechler’s interests and hobbies include a variety of outdoor activities such as baseball, rock climbing, hiking and some indoor recreations like drinking coffee while reading biographies, newspapers and political commentaries. Lechler is an avid Atlanta Braves fan but we are urging him to receive counseling; we’ll make a Mariners fan of him yet.
Arriving on Aug. 5, Lechler has since been busy settling into the community. He is already volunteering at the humane society. He enjoys animals, especially dogs and is excited to adopt one once he becomes more settled on island.
“This place is gorgeous and I look forward to putting down roots here,” said Lechler.
