New V.P. of Sound Publishing area papers named

Sound Publishing President Manfred Tempelmayr has announced that Lori Maxim has been promoted to the position of vice president of West Sound Newspaper Operations.

Sound Publishing President Manfred Tempelmayr has announced that Lori Maxim has been promoted to the position of vice president of West Sound Newspaper Operations.

In her new role, Maxim will have oversight responsibility for Sound Publishing Inc. newspapers in the San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island and in Kitsap County. Publishers will maintain responsibility for their newspaper operations.

The company publishes the Islands’ Weekly, Islands’ Sounder and Journal of the San Juan Islands in San Juan County.

In Island County, Sound publishes the Whidbey News-Times and the South Whidbey Record as well as two monthly publications: On! Whidbey (a local lifestyle guide), and Real Estate on Whidbey.

Kitsap newspapers include the Bainbridge Island Review, North Kitsap Herald, Central Kitsap Reporter, Bremerton Patriot, Port Orchard Independent, the monthly Kingston Community News, and the Kitsap Free Daily.

In the Kitsap and Whidbey-Everett area, Sound publishes the Northwest Navigator for the U.S. Navy.

“I am very excited to have Lori assume responsibility for this very important component of our company,” Tempelmayr said. “These newspapers form the backbone of our organization and are vital to our future success.”

The appointment takes effect April 15. Maxim will continue to be based in the company’s Poulsbo corporate office complex.

Maxim was previously responsible for the company’s corporate marketing and national sales efforts, a position she has held for several years. She joined Sound Publishing in 1988.

Sound, a subsidiary of Black Press Ltd., is the largest publisher of community and suburban newspapers in Washington and is also one of the area’s largest commercial web printers. The company operates 30 community and suburban newspapers, two monthly business journals and 18 Little Nickel and Nickel Ads weekly shoppers throughout Washington and Oregon.

Sound also operates web printing facilities in Everett and Bainbridge Island.
