Featuring the music of Martin Lund and a special presentation from yoga/movement specialist Tara Daley, the community is invited to a Community Mindfulness Forum on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Odd Fellows Hall. The event is sponsored by the Orcas Island Prevention Partnership.
The evening begins at 4 p.m. with a community potluck, followed by the performances. Michael Mele returns to facilitate the forum. OIPP hopes it will be a time where all community members can visit, “break bread,” hear music and special presenters, and then have a safe and supportive place to talk about issues. Although not all issues may be “answered,” OIPP hopes people will feel supported, connections will be made and there will be an opportunity to come together for positive networking.
The prevention partnership launched this new endeavor last May, using the group’s annual meeting as the kick-off for a planned series of six community “Mindfulness” forums. Newer research in the field of prevention indicates that alcohol and/or drug abuses are linked to experiences of trauma and stress and continuing to build supportive responsive community is one type of positive prevention.
