The Board of Trustees of Orcas Center announced on March 1 that Brian Kemp has elected not to renew his second-year option as executive director, and has submitted his resignation, effective April 30.
“Brian has worked tirelessly the last year to initiate the restructuring of Orcas Center’s business operations, and it is with regret that we have accepted his resignation,” said Tom Fiscus, president of the board of trustees. “Brian’s expertise has been instrumental in making critical programming and operational changes and improvements consistent with Orcas Center’s Strategic Plan. Not only did the Center’s financial situation improve significantly, but Brian’s creative energy resulted in new artistic opportunities and a successful 2017-2018 season.”
The board of trustees has asked Fiscus to assume the position of interim executive director following Kemp’s departure. Fiscus, whose term as trustee and president of the board ends on March 11, will begin working immediately with Kemp to affect a smooth transition. He will serve as executive director until such time as a replacement is hired.
“We want to thank Brian for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors. We look forward to building upon the progress the center has made under Brian’s leadership and to continue to provide the Orcas community with a vibrant hub for the performing and visual arts.”
