Prospective kindergarten students and their families are invited to attend a “Kindergarten Roundup” developmental screening hosted by Orcas Elementary on April 27 or 28.
All children who will be at least five years old before Sept.1, 2011 and entering kindergarten in fall of 2011 are encouraged to attend on one of these dates.
“The purpose of the screening is to make sure all children on our island are growing strong and ready to learn,” said organizer Roann Mietzner. “It takes about 45 minutes and is set up in fun centers.”
The screenings are designed to observe each child’s development in the areas of motor skills, concept skills, hearing, vision, speech and language.
Parents who have questions or concerns about younger children are also welcome to attend.
Parents can enroll their children in kindergarten at this time. Birth certificate and immunization records should be brought to the screening.
The roundup will be held at the public school library on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To schedule a time, call Roann at the Elementary School front office at 376-2286.
