Orcas Ferry Landing construction to begin Oct. 31

Submitted by San Juan County

The time is nearing for construction at the Orcas Landing Marine Facility to begin. Work will start in earnest by Oct. 31, but construction related activities should be expected leading up to this date. On-site construction activities could include contractor mobilization, construction fencing erection, utility location and parking reorganization.

San Juan County Public Works is eager to begin construction. The county said it aims to minimize inconveniences to the public, through diligent collaboration with the contractor and open communication with the public. Mike Carlson Enterprises, Inc., of Friday Harbor, was awarded the contract for the construction in July. The project entails construction of block retaining walls, ADA pedestrian ramp with hand railing and resurfacing of a soon to be accessible public viewing area. Work includes clearing, rock excavation, demolition and removal of obstructions, utility relocation and other work.
