Orcas fire & rescue responses

From Jan. 31 to Feb. 12 Orcas Fire and Rescue responded to two outdoor burn investigations and one illegal burn, one automatic fire alarm and one unfounded citizen report of a fire alarm.

Ten medical calls were responded to and three resulted in off-island transport by AirLift North West.

OIFR offers CPR and First Aid training monthly at the Eastsound Fire Station. The training and certification takes place the first Monday of each month (with the exception of holiday Mondays) from September to June at the Eastsound Fire Station, beginning at 7 p.m. There is no charge.

First Aid Training and Certification is also available at the Eastsound Fire Station.This five-hour course begins at 9 a.m. A $35 charge per student is due prior to the beginning of the class.

Alpine Fire and Safety Systems provides service and maintenance for home extinguishers every second Thursday of the month. Extinguisher(s) may be left at the front desk of the Eastsound Fire Station during business hours with contact information written on the extinguisher(s). Alpine will provide the service and bill you directly.

Home Smoke Alarm Maintenance programs and installation assistance is available from OIFR upon request. They will schedule a visit to test and replace smoke alarm batteries for free. They offer free new/replacement smoke alarms for low-income households. Hearing-impaired smoke alarms are also available. Please call 376-2331 for more information. Free smoke alarm battery exchange is also available. Bring used detector batteries and exchange them for FREE at the Eastsound Fire Station.
