The board of the Orcas Island Historical Museum announced it will remain open through the fall and winter months.
“We understand the importance the summer tourist season has for our retailers and lodging establishments, and we know the museum serves a unique role for the visitors who come to visit this wonderful island gem we call Orcas, but we also believe it is important for our schoolchildren and residents to have access to our exhibits and collection for research and study,” board member Tom Welch said.
Throughout the year, the community can continue to research and study island history in the administration building and explore the unique island artifacts
“The museum that cannot be successful without the continued help and support of our volunteers, and we want to express our sincere thanks to each and all of them for their selfless devotion to Orcas Island history,” Welch said. “We think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised by our exhibits, artifacts, and the unique items in our collection. Tourists love us – but we belong to you.”
The Orcas Island Historical Museum will still host its annual Closing Party on Oct. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. The community is welcome for touring the museum, appetizers, music, and apple cider making.
“We will also celebrate the opening of the museum for the fall and winter months,” Welch said.
