The only major issue decided upon at last week’s school board meeting was the projected enrollment number for next year’s budgeting process.
After considerable discussion, including going over data that board member Keith Whitaker compiled of the school’s enrollment history, the board agreed that 440 was a reasonable number to settle upon.
During business manager Ben Thomas’s report, he told the board that enrollment is up three students this month. The fund balance is also $200,000, which is a stark contrast to the negative balance of several years ago.
“We’re in a more positive place than we’ve been in a while,” said Thomas.
WASL testing will start on April 13 with results back at the middle of this summer.
The school will be conducting a bus transportation study at the beginning of April to re-eavulate routes in an effort to save money.
The bond committee is planning to meet again soon; it hopes to talk with architect Carlos Sierra, who conducted a survey of all the school’s buildings during the course of the last bond.
The next school board meeting is on Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the school library.
