Orcas Vikings play today in 1B/2B women’s soccer State Championships

A shootout.

That’s how La Conner beat LaSalle a week before at Snohomish high school. And that’s how the Vikings beat La Conner on Friday.

With the score tied 1-1 between Orcas and La Conner, and after playing two fruitless five minute overtimes, the whole thing landed right back in front of the goal in not one, but two sets of shootouts.

Viking goalkeeper Lana Bronn got one into the left side of the La Conner goalie in the second round of the overtime shootout for the Orcas Island Vikings to win.

Of five players from both teams who went for their shootout free kicks, three players from each side scored goals, forcing a second round. The first Viking, Bronn, aimed high and left for her goal. Emily Bruland for the Braves was up to tie it but her shot went right into the goalie’s arms and Orcas had won.

And with that one deciding shot, the Orcas Vikings play in the state championship today, against Napavine, who beat Seattle Lutheran late yesterday 2-1.

It will be the Napavine Tigers vs the Orcas Vikings today at 2 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium for the state championship in 1B/2B women’s soccer.
