ORS swap meet to benefit the Exchange

Orcas Recycling Services will host a community swap meet at the Orcas Island Grange on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Orcas Recycling Services will host a community swap meet at the Orcas Island Grange on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The “Exchange @ The Grange” will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. ORS will sponsor a hot dog roast, and provide the latest information on the progress of rebuilding the Exchange.

There are two ways to participate in the swap meet. First there is a standard Swap: table spaces will be available inside the Grange for smaller items; uncovered 10′ x 10′ spaces will be available outside. Spaces can be reserved, on a first come-first served basis, beginning August 19.

There will be no charge for the spaces, but a donation to the “Rebuild the Exchange” fund of ten percent (or more) of sales is suggested. Swap participants are responsible for taking home unsold items at the end of the day.

The second way to participate is through the exceptional item program.

In advance of the event, ORS will be accepting high value/quality items to be sold at the swap meet to benefit the Exchange. If ORS accepts the item(s), donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt.

Not all items will be accepted — experienced ORS staff and volunteers will review the donated items based on resale potential. To donate a high quality/value item(s), please contact ORS directly in advance of the event.

ORS will also sponsor a free back-to-school clothing department at the swap meet. Bring by your clean, out-grown kids clothes and ORS staff and volunteers will manage the exchange of these items.

For questions, or to reserve spaces for the swap call ORS at 360 376 4089. For more detailed information, including a list of items that are not allowed in the swap, visit the website: www.exchangeorcas.org.
