Leadership San Juan Islands (LSJI) announces that the deadline for applications for its 2009 program is Nov. 7.
The San Juan County Fair will host two giant Flea Market and Craft Fairs, Saturday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
The Olga Community club potluck is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8. Social hour will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The lecture series Crossroads: Ideas for a New Century will continue on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Orcas Center. Juliet Stumpf, professor of immigration and citizenship law at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Ore., will speak on “Crossing New Borders: Making Sense of the U.S. Immigration Debate through Law, History, and Politics.”
Marine Science Lecture Series: Dr. Scott Pearson will give a presentation on two fascinating seabirds, rhinoceros auklets and tufted puffins. Jeremiah Bernhardt, M.D. is a third-year family medicine resident from Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center who arrived at Orcas Family Health Center (OFHC) in the middle of October to complete a month-long rotation under the supervision of David C. Shinstrom, M.D. Over the past few years, several third-year residents have done a similar rotation, noting the time spent at OFHC served as a valuable learning experience for rural medical practitioners.”
The San Juan County Council has appointed Johannes Krieger and Andy Holman to the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee, a citizens’ committee that supports research, promotes stewardship of marine resources and advises the County Council on Marine Resource issues.
