Every Saturday night, a group of ping pong enthusiasts gears up for an evening of laughter, competition, and a big dose of fun.
The Orcas Table Tennis Association has been meeting regularly for friendly games of ping pong since July. The group first played outside at West Beach, but moved indoors to the Orcas Christian School gym once the weather turned.
“We’re looking for intermediate players, but anyone is welcome,” said Jamey Hanse, who created the weekly game night with Michael Johnson. Hanse is an experienced ping ponger – he’s been into the sport since college, when he played two to three hours a day.
The table tennis games run from 6-8 p.m. The event is sponsored by the West Beach Resort, and there is a $2 admission charge to help pay for rental fees.
“If you’re into the game of ping pong or table tennis, we’ve got multiple tables, a good spot to play, good people, and good games,” said Hanse.
In addition to more players, they are also looking for another table. “If anyone’s got one squirreled away in their garage, we’ll gladly take it!”
