On Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of a downed aircraft in the 3300 block of Point Lawrence Road on Orcas Island. It is believed the aircraft experienced mechanical issues while in flight after taking off from Friday Harbor Airport and made an emergency landing in a bare grassy field. The aircraft is a complete loss. The RP stated there were three people inside the plane and all were complaining of minor injuries. The three occupants were flown off-island for medical treatment. An investigation will be conducted by the NTSB.
