Sign up now to join “Plant for the Planet” on Saturday, Feb. 14 for a free Climate Ambassador training of youth ages 8-14 at Orcas Island Elementary School in the Gymnasium.
Parents are optional and welcome, but kids ages 8-14 are very much needed for this event to help a world-wide children’s initiative in planting 1,000 billion trees. The valuable, all-day training in planting trees and discussing science-based approaches of pulling carbon from the atmosphere and possible climate solutions is free and includes a tee-shirt and lunch.
This all-day academy for kids emphasizes personal action and motivation to understand climate change, make a difference, and take action and/or participate in related activities. The movement was started by a 9-year-old in 2007.
Volunteers will serve lunch and snacks during the day, help plant a tree or two, and worki in small groups with kids during the team building exercises and Climate PowerPoint presentation.
The Academy is from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
You can sign up for free online at climatechangeforfamilies.com or call Adrienne Reed at 206-696-1280 or email Madie Murray with the Farm to Cafeteria Program at gomadie@gmail.com for more information.
