The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
March 6
• A Friday Harbor man called about the dismantling of a Yurt on what was reported as his property. After deputies investigated the charge, they found no documentation to support the claim that the property belonged to the caller. It is currently a civil issue.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle accident after the driver failed to negotiate a curve and went into the ditch. The driver was uninjured in the accident.
March 7
• A San Juan deputy received a call from a person who said their laptop and motorcycle were stolen. The situation was determined to be a civil matter and closed.
• A deputy on San Juan received eight bottles of expired animal medication for destruction.
• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle who was issued a citation for speeding, 43 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
March 8
• A driver was stopped on Lopez and issued a citation for speeding, 45 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a prowler on an unoccupied property under surveillance. Further investigation revealed the identity of the person and deputies learned the person was searching for their lost dog. No crime occurred.
• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a non-injury accident after a vehicle was found in the ditch. The driver was not located and a 72-hour notice was placed on the vehicle.
March 9
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left of center and arrested them for driving under the influence. While in the booking room of the Sheriff’s Office, the individual scraped profanity into the wall.
March 10
• A deputy responded to a trespassing call near Eastsound. The property owner wanted a trespass warning letter served to an individual; the person was located and informed that if they trespassed on the property again they would be arrested.
• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a possible burglary. After the video surveillance was collected and an investigation was completed, there appeared to be no evidence of a crime.
• A San Juan resident brought a dog to the Sheriff’s Office after they’d found it on their property. The dog’s owner was contacted and was given a dog-at-large warning letter.
• A deputy on Orcas issued the owner of a vehicle a citation for abandoning said vehicle at a local towing establishment.
• A driver was stopped and a deputy issued them a citation for speeding on Orcas – 44 mph in a 25 mph zone.
March 11
• A deputy responded to a citizen assist near West Sound on Orcas.
• Deputies received a report from a resident on Lopez who reported domestic issues involving a former partner. No crime had occurred and support resources were recommended.
• In Eastsound, deputies responded to a possible overdose. The person refused medical treatment and did not know why the reporting party had contacted emergency services.
March 12
• The Sheriff’s Office was contacted for a welfare check on San Juan and deputies transported the person to Peace Island Medical Center.
•A deputy took a report that a dog had bit a resident while they were playing with it and went to the hospital as a precaution.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a missing person who, after borrowing a car, did not return home when they said they would. After the individual was located in the vehicle, it was then collected by the owner.
