The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 28

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a civil service call.

• A driver doing 45 mph in a 35 mph zone on Lopez, was stopped by a deputy and received a citation for speeding, plus additional warnings.

• Fortunately, no one was making use of the port-a-potty when a driver at the Lopez ferry terminal backed into it and destroyed it. The port-a-potty pulverizer was cited for negligent driving and driving without proof of insurance, and their vehicle was towed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for failing to yield at a traffic circle. The driver was ultimately arrested and booked into jail for driving under the influence.

Aug. 29

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen assist.

• On Orcas, a deputy was dispatched to a report of two pit bulls running loose on the Turtleback Mountain trail. The owner received a warning letter when they arrived to corral the dogs.

• A deputy received a call about a possible order violation; however, to determine if the violation occurred or not, deputies need a statement from a possible witness. The case remains under investigation.

• A deputy responded to a possible harassment call in Eastsound and filed an informational report, though there were no criminal findings.

Aug. 30

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of vandalism at a county park and documented the graffiti.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding, 40 mph in a posted 25 mph zone; additional warnings were given, as well.

• San Juan Aid was dispatched to a report of an unresponsive person in the Friday Harbor area and confirmed the person had passed away. Deputies arrived to investigate the incident.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist at the Lopez Sub-Station. A report of financial theft is currently under investigation.

• Deputies continue to investigate a reported theft on Lopez.

• San Juan deputies investigated a reported death and determined the person died from natural causes.

• A Lopez deputy cited a driver for speeding after stopping them for driving 45 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The driver also received a warning for an expired registration.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a residential burglary complaint.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of theft. The stolen item was ultimately recovered; the suspect was located and charged with third-degree theft.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of people arguing and smacking noises out over the water on Mud Bay Road. The deputy investigated but was unable to locate the source of the noise.

Aug. 31

• In Friday Harbor, deputies investigated the report of a death.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of theft, located the suspect, recovered the stolen item, and charged the suspect with third-degree theft.

• After a Lopez business asked to have a local person trespassed from the property, deputies issued them a trespass letter.

• After reports of a traffic-related altercation on Fisherman Bay Road, Lopez deputies cited a motorcyclist; additional charges may follow. Deputies are also looking for a jogger who was assaulted by the rider.

Sept. 1

• Deputies responded to a report of harassment in the Olga area. After an investigation, a subject was arrested for first-degree assault, harassment, and stalking, transported to San Juan, and booked into jail pending a hearing with the judge.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a domestic incident and determined no crime was committed.

Sept. 2

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a lost bag and laptop. The reporting party said that the last time they saw it was in their vehicle in town the prior evening; they also reported there was no obvious forced entry into their vehicle.

• Deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident with no injuries on San Juan. When the deputies arrived, the two drivers were already exchanging information.

• An investigation on Lopez continues after deputies received a report that a vehicle was stolen from a local business.

Sept. 3

• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to a problem with a juvenile.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to assist with an agency of the Department of Social and Health Services.

• After a lost credit card was turned in to the Sheriff’s Office on San Juan, deputies entered it as evidence until it is retrieved.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of harassment that had reportedly occurred days earlier. After speaking with the involved parties, no crime was reported.
