Ray’s Pharmacy is becoming a hub for vaccines.
Rick Hughes, who operates the business with his wife Marlace, says he is committed to providing COVID-19 vaccines and non-symptomatic testing as well as flu and shingles shots for all county residents. In the future, childhood immunizations will also be available.
“We feel like it’s our responsibility to help the community make the best decision for themselves,” Marlace said.
The pharmacy is currently offering COVID vaccine clinics every Monday with Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer (for those aged 12 to 18). There is no charge to patients but those with medical coverage are asked to bring their insurance cards. A third shot of Moderna is available for immune-compromised patients with a note from their doctor.
Ray’s is currently the only entity in San Juan County currently offering PCR testing for travel or other non-medical-related reasons. The turnaround for results is between 48 and 72 hours.
Ray’s is providing shingles shots on Fridays and flu shots every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Both are free for those who have insurance. High-dose flu vaccines for those 65 and older are available but there is an out-of-pocket charge of $76.
“We cannot bill Medicare for the high doses because we aren’t a Medicare Part B pharmacy yet, but I am working on it and we will be soon,” Rick said.
