The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
May 29
• The Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle collision on San Juan. The driver was possibly having a medical issue and was released to go to the hospital. There appeared to be no injuries, with only minor damage to the vehicle.
• A deputy on Orcas received a request to rescind a trespass warning letter.
• On San Juan, the owner of a daycare requested to have a person trespassed, and a trespass warning letter was drafted and served.
• Deputies on San Juan located a person wanted on an active warrant. She was taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A deputy on San Juan went to the Emergency Room at Peace Island Medical Center on a report that someone was bitten by their dogs. When deputies responded, they learned the dogs’ owner was wanted on an out-of-state warrant, which was confirmed with the out-of-state agency. The individual was then taken into custody and booked into the jail on the warrant.
May 30
• An Orcas man was trespassed from a local market.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. An individual, who was wanted on a $50,000 out-of-county warrant, had locked themselves in a bedroom. Deputies entered the bedroom and arrested the individual on the warrant, as well as on 4th-degree domestic violence assault, obstructing, and resisting.
• An Orcas rental car company reported one of their vehicles was attempting to be driven onto the ferry. The car had not been rented and was reported as stolen. Anacortes Police Department was notified and intercepted the driver and the vehicle as it got off the ferry. The suspect was then taken into custody.
• San Juan deputies responded to a citizen dispute, arrested one of the individuals, and booked them into jail for harassment – domestic violence. During the arresting search, cocaine was found in the individual’s pocket.
May 31
• A deputy was dispatched to a local Friday Harbor business because a person was harassing customers and employees. When deputies arrived, the person had left. A trespass warning letter was prepared and will be served on the person when located.
• An Orcas deputy responded to the upper lot of the high school after a citizen had pulled into the parking lot and, after accidentally pressing the gas instead of the brake, collided with a fence on the high school track/soccer field causing a significant amount of damage.
• A deputy took possession of property found on San Juan and, after no luck locating the owner, entered the property into evidence.
• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of harassment and provided the caller with resources.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle that had been sold over 45 days prior. The driver was issued citations for driving with a suspended license – second-degree, and for failing to transfer the title within 45 days. The driver also received citations for not having insurance or a driver’s license on their person.
• A deputy responded to a report of an assault on San Juan. The victim did not wish to pursue charges and the suspect was issued a trespass notice for the business.
June 1
• A deputy on Orcas took custody of a canister of gunpowder a citizen wished to turn in. The item was collected and submitted into evidence for destruction.
• A San Juan deputy observed an individual driving with a suspended driver’s license and forwarded the report to the prosecutor’s office.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a possible prowler at a business. The business was secure and no one was found on the premises.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of and entered into evidence, property found at the Farmer’s Market.
June 2
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a death investigation.
• A wheelchair was found in Friday Harbor and brought to the Sheriff’s Office, where it was booked into evidence as found property.
June 3
• The Sheriff’s Office on San Juan received a report that the Public Works’ mower was obstructing traffic though it had pulled over to let vehicles pass. The incident was closed since there was no violation of the law as the county employee was operating the mower in the course of their duties.
• Deputies responded to a report of damaged property on San Juan, however, there were no investigative leads to work with.
• An Oregon driver received a citation for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on Lopez Island.
June 4
• A deputy investigated the theft and vandalism of a bicycle from an Orcas school. Follow-up is required to identify the suspect.
• Lopez deputies arrested a local man on an outstanding warrant, took him into custody without incident, and transported him to the San Juan County Jail.
• Someone found a debit card on San Juan and took it to the Sheriff’s Office. After attempts to identify and contact the owner, the card was packaged and submitted into evidence as found property.
