Seattle Times features record salmon catch off of Lopez Island

In an article entitled, "In the pink: low-tech reef netters haul in best salmon catch in years," the Sept. 14 online edition of the Seattle Times featured commercial reef-netters hauling in pink salmon off the coast of Lopez Island.

The fishermen work off of 16-foot ladders, using nets strung between two barges to scoop up the schools of pinks heading for the mouth of the Fraser River. This year fish managers allowed a catch of three million pinks for Washington fishermen, split between tribal and nontribal fishermen.
