Dec. 21: A Lopez Island man apparently could live with a busted lip, a black eye and chipped tooth or two. He claims he notified authorities because his alleged 20-year-old assailant vowed to get a handgun and pick up where he left off. He claims to have been assaulted by the other man at a late-night party that took place two days earlier.

Dec. 28: The practice field at Orcas High School sustained $4,000 in damage in an apparent case of vandalism by vehicle. Someone reportedly drove onto the field and did doughnuts in the grass in a vehicle with a 4-inch axle-width and with tires about nine inches wide.

Dec. 29: An Orcas Island woman accused of stealing a friend’s car and lying about it, and then trying to swipe it a second time, faces charges of theft, vehicle prowl and unauthorized use of a vehicle. The 20-year-old was arrested the day after she reportedly tried to commandeer the car of a friend, whom she had been visiting, for the second time in two days. She fled the scene when confronted by that friend and the following day was arrested at the home of a different friend that lives nearby.

Jan. 4: A tip about a possible intoxicated driver led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man for DUI and driving with an open container following a late-afternoon traffic stop near the intersection of Main and Madrona streets. The 42-year-old reportedly was first spotted parked near the high school in Eastsound, and was then pulled over at about 4 p.m. as he drove away.

Jan. 6: Failure to obey a stop sign prompted the arrest of an Orcas man for driving with a suspended license following a late-night traffic stop near the intersection of A Street and North Beach Road. The 46-year-old, who reportedly ran a stop sign, was pulled over at about 9 p.m.
