San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to there calls:

June 14: An Orcas Island woman was arrested for assault following an mid-morning altercation at an Eastsound restaurant with her son’s girlfriend. The 43-year-old allegedly grabbed the younger woman by the neck, choked her and shoved her against a wall during a confrontation over who would be holding her grandchild. She claims that she retaliated when the 22-year-old woman scratched her while trying to grab her child out of the older woman’s arms.

June 16: Circumstances surrounding the death of a purebred “Texel” ram on Lopez Island remain under investigation. The ram, valued at $1,000, was dead when it was found in a pond in a pasture in the 1200 block of Fisherman Bay Road. It was last seen alive in early afternoon the day before by several construction workers, one of whom also saw a medium-sized white dog wandering along the fence line of the pasture that afternoon. Officers were unable to determine if the ram had been chased or attacked.

June 17: Excessive speed led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man for driving with a suspended license following an early-morning traffic stop on Orcas Road. The 27-year-old was pulled over in the 6000 block of Orcas Road shortly before 7 a.m.

June 19: An Orcas Island boy was arrested at the home of a friend for violating court-ordered curfew after his mother notified authorities of the apparent violation. The 14-year-old was taken into custody at the Lavender Hollow Apartments at about 9:30 p.m.

Multiple arrest warrants prompted a former Orcas Island man who reportedly had been living Oregon to surrender to authorities at the Sheriff’s office in Friday Harbor. The 37-year-old reportedly wants to take care of his local legal problems, return to the San Juans and be part of the community. He was taken into custody at about 9 a.m.

June 23: A large anvil disappeared from a shed belonging to an Orcas Island woman in an apparent case of burglary and theft. The anvil, measuring 18 inches long, 14 inches wide and eight inches tall, and valued at $300, was reportedly the only item stolen from the shed in the 300 block of Englehertson Road. It was also a favored piece of equipment of an elderly man who recently died, according to his 82-year-old widow.

June 24: A Covington man was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving following an early morning episode in which he reportedly passed several cars on a blind corner and at a high-rate speed while en route to the Orcas Island ferry terminal. The 31-year-old was tracked down and ticketed by an officer based on a call by a driver in one of the cars that he passed.
