Commissioner’s jobs for the Port of Orcas, the Eastsound Sewer and Water District and the Fisherman Bay Sewer District are some of the positions that no one seems to want. A lack of applications for those and a number of other elected county positions has resulted in the calling of a special extended three-day filing period on June 10, 11 & 12. If no candidates file after the additional filing period, the office will not appear on the November 3 General Election ballot and the current incumbent will remain in office.
Candidate filings will be accepted on all three days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. concluding on June 12 at 4:30 p.m.
The full list of offices included in the three day filing include: Shaw Island School District #10 Director 1, Port of Orcas Commissioner 2, San Juan County Cemetery District #2 Commissioner, Positions #1, #2 and #3 Stuart Island, Cape San Juan Water District Commissioner Position #2, Cattle Point Water District Commissioner #2, Eastsound Sewer and Water District Commissioner #3 and Fisherman Bay Sewer District Commissioner #3.
Primary elections will be held in the San Juan Fire Protection District #2 Commissioner Position #2 and Lopez Island School District Director #1 races as three candidates have filed for each position. Primary costs are paid for the districts affected.
Candidates may file in person, by mail or online. Information is available at the Elections Department at 55 Second St, PO Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA 98250; at 378-3357; by e-mail at elections@co.san-juan.wa.us. or online at http://wei.secstate.wa.gov/sanjuan/Pages/default.aspx.
